Running Fred is a fast-paced 3D action platformer with a dark sense of humor, developed by Dedalord in 2012 and still a browser gaming staple. You control Fred, a hapless hero whose evil twin brother Alfreddo sold his soul to Grimmy (the Grim Reaper) in exchange for a new hat. Now Fred must run for his life through trap-filled corridors, dodging circular saws, swinging axes, spiked pendulums, and bottomless pits — with Grimmy in relentless pursuit.

The core of Running Fred is brutally simple: Fred runs forward automatically, and your job is to jump, slide, and dodge the increasingly sadistic traps that fill each level. The ragdoll physics make every death hilarious — Fred flies, bounces, and crumples in ways that turn frustration into laughter. Respawning is instant, so you are back in the action before you even finish groaning at your last mistake.

Three game modes keep the experience fresh. Adventure Mode offers structured levels with checkpoints, finish lines, and medal ratings. Challenge Mode delivers short, punishing skill trials. Endless Survival Mode generates a procedural gauntlet that gets faster and harder the longer you stay alive.

Skills, Skullies, and Costumes

Collect Skullies — the game's currency — scattered through each level. Spend them on permanent upgrades: Double Jump (the single most important unlock), Wall Run to reach safer side paths, Slide to duck under low hazards, Coin Magnet to collect from further away, and Extra Life to survive one more hit. Unlockable costumes — Pirate Fred, Ninja Fred, Rocket Fred, and more — add variety without affecting gameplay.

The themed locations — Grisly Manor (spooky castle), Danger Caves (tight underground passages), and High Stakes (rooftops with vertigo-inducing drops) — each introduce new trap types and demand different movement strategies.
